PRINCE VINCENT OKUMAGBA: A Great Leader Par Excellence

…….full of ideas and inmovations

There is a brand new terminology in the lexicon of football supporters club in Nigeria. Whenever the story of football supporters club is talked or written about in football folklore, the first phrase that would probably spring to mind is PRINCE VINCENT OKUMAGBA Founder and National President, Super Eagles Supporters Club of Nigeria (SESC), Vice President, African Football Supporters Association and Chairman Interim Management Committee, Nigeria Football and other Sports Supporters Group.

The news of his exemplary and untainted style of leadership and conduct has greatly endeared him to members of the club. His transparency, honesty and open-minded policy has shot into the wave of mileage and and got to many as a shock though, but this writer won’t say a shock because a famous philosopher said and I quote ” IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR A SHALLOW THINKING LEADER TO MAKE A POSITIVE and DEEP IMPRESSION ON HIS FOLLOWERS” he said also ” A TRUE AND EFFECTIVE THINKING LEADER WITH A TRANSPARENT HONESTY OF CARRYING ALONG HIS PEOPLE WON’T FIND THE PATH DIFFICULT” Prince Vincent Okumagba has proven the qualities that stands him out amongst his colleagues and contemporaries whilst at the same time justified the above quote with his heartwarming and overwhelming achievements as Numero-Uno of supporters club in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the euphoria that greeted his achievements of rising above his peers may not be completed without saluting his courage, zeal and audacity to succeed where others failed.

The shock and near-shocker of his strides supporters club affairs is his resolve to shoulder the responsibility of flying and having his members at every sports venue involving Nigeria thereby, giving hope to the hopeless, renew the faith of the faithless, give life to those whose interest is fading/has fades and provide succor to third rated Nigerians that wishes to join the club, while his determination and commitment to ensuring all that needed to be done shall be attended to with no oversight is second to none.

Doubters, Prince Okumagba has left you behind to continuing swimming in your pool of hatred while he set the pace, run his race in his pace and watch the world doff its hat and people bow their heads.

His (Prince Vincent Okumagba) achievements is a statement to every like-minds that he is a result oriented man of vision, purpose and focus with technical know-how of what it takes to save and reposition the supporters club to become the envy of outside world.

Historically, this is the first time supporters club is breathing a life of positive feelings and the very first time a national chairman will be so respected, valued, and appreciated by members due to his openness, accountability and no favouritism style of leadership.

I’d like to state reflectively that the likes of PRINCE VINCENT OKUMAGBA don’t come twice in a decade, in a century, even in life time, though, God is incomparable but HE (God ) blesses the earth once a while with such a rare gem.

Keep your innovations going and don’t relent in your efforts to keep the club going as well. The pace you’re setting today is enough to accommodate the pure and progressive hearts. The pace is widen enough for everyone to run its race, maintain and sustain the pace you have provided.

GOD bless you richly the man of great ideologies for your wonderful contribution to football and other sports Supporters club and most importantly the best amongst the lot SUPER EAGLES SUPPORTERS CLUB.

NSC And Its Unfulfilled Promises To Supporters Club

By Tolu Atobatele

The inability of National Sports Commission to fulfill its promises to the Nigeria Football and other Sports Supporters Group, NFSSG has place the club in a very difficult situation in making a proper logistical arrangements for club members anytime there is a national assignments to attend.

The Sports Commission headed by Alhaji Shehu Dikko and its Director General Bukola Olopade have not shown enough commitment towards the promises of seeing to the welfare of Nigeria Football and other Sports Supporters Group in terms of providing financial support to eaze the burden of the club.

The supporters club play a major role in our football sector having been around for decades and contributing in no small measures making the country proud and being good ambassadors of the country through supporting the national teams in both local and international sports gathering the country take part in.

The inattentive and cunning nature of the sports commission towards the supporters club clearly shows a lack of respect for the body and signal a bad breath on the part of government.

The last match in Bloemfontein against South Africa was a show of shame on the part of the sports commission as they renege on their words of airlifting members of the club to the venue of the game while allocation of slots for seats on the chattered flight to South Africa and previous venues of away games to members of the club were ridiculous and unimpressive.

The deceitful confidence trick of the sports commission is causing a lot of discomfort to supporters club thereby, hindering their progress and jeopardizes their presence at match venues in large numbers. To say the supporters club will fare better and perform tremendously when they disperse to their various structures is an understatement.

Enough of fake promises and rigid handling of issues of national interest. The sports commission must stand up to its responsibility, be transparent enough and respect the stakeholders who spend their monies and resources to promote football during good and bad times.

It is noteworthy to know that since the sports commission don’t find it worthy to stand up to their promises which was the primary reason the various group of supporters club accept and gave their consents to the idea of harmonizing their structures into one body, then, they should hands off and let the club return to their previous structures to continue ruining and managing their affairs individually.

The last two games of the qualifiers for the world cup will hold next month (October) with the first of the games coming up in Bloemfontein, South Africa against the Crocs of Lesotho and having a large presence of supporters club in the stands to cheer and motivate the team on Match day will be an important factor in the outcome of the game, hence, the call on sports commission to either fulfil their promises or allow them to go back to how they met them before things become worse.

The inability of National Sports Commission, NSC in fulfilling the promises made to supporters club prior to the harmonization of the various factional groups into a unified body has put the club in a very difficult situation in making a proper logistical arrangements for members whenever their is a national assignments and this, do not augur well for the club.

Unjust Treatment Of Supporters Club By Government

By Tolu Atobatele

Football supporters club in Nigeria is a private entity thriving on its own before being hijacked by both the National Sports Commission, NSC and Nigeria Football Federation, NFF under the pretense of unifying the groups, and thereafter subjects the club to unjust treatment via lack of financial support and poor allocation of slots.

The club has been the twelveth player for the country various national teams over the years with presence at every major continental or international sporting events (especially football) involving Nigeria at any level without being supported by government or the FA rather, they source funds from private sectors and make voluntary donations to keep the club going and attend every function, sports-wise.

These people were doing brilliantly well individually save the difference in their performance at match venues anytime the national team play which form the basis of NSC and NFF to wade in and compel the groups to merge into a unit with a promise of seeing to their needs through providing financial support and making available other materials for effective and seamless operation of the club.

The supporters club find it extremely difficult to move their members in large numbers to match venues outside of the country due to a very poor logistical arrangements and low rate of slots alloted to them by National Sports Commission thus, making it worrisome to some of us who have been following and motoring the activities of supporters club up close these past years.

If the National Sports Commission, NSC headed by Mallam Shehu Dikko and the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, headed by Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau don’t see the need to support the supporters club with funds and allocate to them large numbers of slots to accommodate their members in numbers on chattered flights for national assignments outside the shores of the country then, they should allow the supporters club to disperse back to their various factional groups to continue managing their affairs as they have been doing in the past.

The supporters club were not present at the Free State stadium in Bloemfontein, South Africa this past Tuesday September 9 when the Super Eagles confronted Bafana Bafana in a 2026 world cup qualifier that means a lot to our qualification to the world cup unlike in Uyo where a horde of their members were fully on ground to provide support for the team (Super Eagles) against the Wasps of Rwanda.

It is saddening when supporters club are treated dismally with no recognition from government and those in authority and this is a group of people that navigate every minefield to cross borders and ensure Super Eagles and other tiers of our national teams get the needed support in a bid to put smiles on the faces of over two hundred million Nigerians. They spend from their hard-earned money, time, energy and other resources to contribute their quota to football yet no compensation or appreciation whatsoever from government.

It is unacceptable not to recognize the effort, value and contributions of supporters club to the growth and development of football and other sports in the country. The time has come to appreciate their good work, support them by making funds available to them to assist in their logistics and make the environment conducive.

The National Sports Commission and Nigeria Football Federation must have a rethink on their decision to collapse the individual structures of the supporters club into a unit as lack of support for the supporters club derail their activities.
